Most popular diets can be categorized easily by the types of food they avoid along with the kind that they favor. The ones mentioned on the left are the general low carb way of eating, the low fat diet, no grain, Atkins, South Beach and a few others. All of these diets have been known to work to some degree with some people whereas with others the same diet may fail! Obviously, every individual reacts uniquely to each method of fat loss so before choosing and following a program it would be wise to read through all of the diets, understand how they are supposed to work and then embark on a program following the diet you are most comfortable with.

You may find it necessary to try one or more of the diets before you feel you are ready to settle down with your favorite one. It should be understood that these diets are a way of life, and not something you do for a few weeks and then stop, expecting the results to stay with you. Once you have discovered which diet suits you the best then it is best to stick with that habit for as long as possible barring the occasional exception.

It is also possible to incorporate features from one or more strict diet regimens into your own customized plan, this is why it is important to understand the principles behind each type of diet.
