Low fat diets
The Low fat diet is generally also a high carb diet by necessity. To follow this diet one generally reduces as much fat as possible from the diet and depends on calories from fruits and whole grain. So in fact the proportion of meat, especially red meat, also goes down.
Low fat diets generally recommend complex carbs such as wholegrain breads, oats, and brown or wild rice. Complex carbs are broken down into glucose more slowly than simple carbohydrates and thus provide a more stable and controlled release of sugar into the bloodstream throughout the day.
Complex carbs are usually present the closer a food is to it's most natural state such as oatmeal, bran, unpolished rye and brown rice. The less of the outer skin of a grain that is removed, the more vitamins, minerals and essential oils are likely to remain in the product hence whole durum wheat will be preferred over white flour.
Complex carbohydrates will eventually end up in the muscle cells providing ATP which is used for muscle contraction so it is essential that a person excercises to increase the deposits of complex carbs in their muscle tissue. This will make the body less dependent on fat and will force the body to become less of a fat storage machine. .
